Over fifty percent of the population in the greater Vancouver area is of Asian descent. Of that, more than 50 % is of Cantonese descent, mostly from around Hong Kong and Southern China.

Unlike San Francisco, California, U. S. of A. which is noted for its Chinatown, Vancouver's Chinatown is very small with no night life. It is mostly a market place for the Oriental population which is scattered around the area and is actually larger than that of San Francisco which is concentrated in their Chinatown.

Throughout the Vancouver area are hundreds of Chinese restaurants. The good ones, in Chinatown, are upstairs, through narrow, discreet, doorways.

Few of them are open in the evening and there are no night clubs.

Keefer street, however, comes alive on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, during the summer.

The street is closed off and filled with stalls. Vendors display their wares.

On the end of the block Near Gore St. a stage is sometimes erected and artists perform.
