The odd time, at a beach in British Columbia I have found a sand dollar, dead.

DEAD SAND DOLLARS

At this beach I not only found many dead ones but also many live ones.

LIVE SAND DOLLARS

They roll with the waves, so you have to be quick to catch them. But don't take home the live ones.

If you want to take the dead ones, wrap them carefully. They are very brittle and shatter easily.
