2002 May. I caught the bus from Cancun to Puerto Morelos to check out the ferry schedule to Cozumel.

Buses leave Cancun approximately every fifteen minutes. The Mayab Bus Lines loads on the street across from the main bus terminal. Its office is in a small store front.
When the bus leaves it has to circle part of the town to get out on the main road. The man in the picture, who looks like he is hitchhiking, will board the bus before it leaves, try to sell you some tourist stuff, and depart the bus before it gets on the highway.
The bus will drop you, on the West side of the highway, at the junction to Puerto Morelos. From the bus stop one must cross the busy highway to a taxi stand on the road to Puerto Morelos. It is a short cab ride, to Puerto Morelos, but too far to walk.
Returning, the bus stop is under a roof on the East side of the highway just a few feet South of the taxi stop. Going home I rode with Riviera Bus Lines.
Puerto Morelos is a small town with a couple of restaurants, a couple of souvenir shops and a popular beach.
While snorkeling near the pier I dropped my snorkel in the water and because it is made of clear plastic I was unable to find it. I spent a long time quartering the water with only a mask on but to no avail.

Eventually a Mexican gentleman, who was swimming with his family, found it, outside my search area.
After swimming for awhile I walked the streets of the town and found the ferry terminal.

It is essentially a car and truck terminal which services the island of Cozumel. The passenger ferries to Cozumel go out of Playa Del Carmen.
HE WAS IN THE SHADE. |

The sun has moved, it is time to move to the other side of the truck.
While his partner sleeps across the seats this driver was catching some zzzz’s in the shade while waiting to board the ferry.
Pedestrians and cyclists are permitted on the truck ferry which sails twice a day, but I have forgotten what the times or prices are as I didn't write them down.
So, unfortunately this story has not got a lot of information in it, but I hope you enjoy the pictures.
If you are looking for a quite place with a pleasant beach, away from he hustle and bustle of Cancun, consider Puerto Morelos.

In all my travels the Pelican restaurant is the only place I’ve seen a sign that tells you to put your used toilet paper in the trash can.
