A Day in the Life of a Teamster

4:00 AM Put on coveralls. Check under hood. Start motor. Climb under truck in freezing snow or pouring rain. Set brakes. Check lights. Move truck to. circus, set, or studio, a distance of 20 feet or 20 miles.

5:00 Level and set up unit. If it is a Honey Wagon (washrooms) be sure it is clean and there is a sufficient supply of towel and tissue.

5:30 Clean up. Put on tie. Take fancy car to the hotel and pick up a director or actor. Return to circus with passenger.

6:00 Switch to 7 or 15 passenger van. Take cast (extras, actors, stunt people, etc.) and crew (grips, directors, boomman, etc.) from crew park to circus and from circus to set. This could be a half a block drive in city traffic or a 10 mile drive down a windy road on the side of a mountain.

7:00 Switch to small truck. Go to lumber yard and pick up plywood. Return to set

9:00 Switch to van, take mail (time sheets, etc.) from circus to office. Make deliveries from office to various companies in town. Do pickups for office. Take mail (scripts, pay cheques, etc.) from office to circus.

11:00 Help set up chairs and tables in lunch tent.

12:00 Have another van take you to the body shop. Pick up picture car (police car, ambulance, hot rod, etc.) .Drive to set. position picture car. Stand in rain while scene is filmed. Return car to body shop. Wait for van to take you back to circus.

13:00 Lunch.

13:30 Drive van. Carry cast and crew from set to circus for lunch. Deliver lunches to directors, etc. who don't have time to leave set. Return cast and crew to set.

14:30 Help take down tables and chairs in the lunch tent and put in slush truck. Take slush truck to location of next days shooting. wait for ride to starting point. Take personal vehicle to site of next days location. Wait for ride back to circus.

16:30 Clean up. Use nice car and take an actress back to the hotel.

17:00 Pick up deliveries at office take to offices in town.

18:00 Pick up actress at hotel and take to airport.

20:00 Pick up replacement lens at camera shop, take to set.

21:00 Switch to van. Take cast and crew from set and circus to circus and crew parking.

22:00 Take van to next days location.

23:00 Catch ride back to set or circus. Check out truck and move it to next days location.

24:00 Go home.

Total. 20 hours. Not uncommon.
